Scope and Content
The James K. Moore, Jr. Photograph Collection contains postcards and snapshots related to the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho tribes on the Wind River Reservation. The images have all been copied using a camera with 5x7 glass negatives, usually two at a time.

Biographical Note
James Kerr Moore, Jr. was born in 1876 at Fort Washakie, Wyoming, where his father, James Kerr Moore, was post trader and postmaster. He grew up "behind the counter" of the store and eventually took over the business when his father retired in 1907. Moore Jr. was also known as an expert in Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho cultures, having grown up on the Wind River Reservation with the tribes and even worked as an interpreter for a time. He passed away in Thermopolis in 1965.

Acquisition Information
27 of the glass negatives originally loaned for copy to the department by J.K. Moore, Jr. in 1961 as H61-104. In 1963, 51 glass negatives were donated by J.K. Moore, Jr. and accessioned as H63-125.

Processed prior to 2005. Contact prints made from negatives and copy negs made from the prints.
