Scope and Content

This collection consists of two areas of historical interest to Bishop - the Civil War and the Pony Express Route. Of the former, Bishop collected the military records of Thomas M. Littleton, a Civil War veteran and a lieutenant in the Wyoming National Guard.

The other, more extensive collection pertains to the Pony Express Centennial, documenting the exact location of the pony express stations across that state and creating a map of the same. Also of significant interest are minutes of the state centennial association and correspondence about state and national activities.

Biographical Note

L.C. Bishop was a consulting engineer, state engineer from (1939-1957) and an afficionado of history. Bishop was a founding member of the Wyoming Pioneer Association in 1925 amd during the late 1950s and early 1960s Bishop became very active in the Wyoming State Historical Society.

Thomas M. Littleton was a Civil War veteran and a lieutenant in the Wyoming National Guard

The collection originally included one cubic foot of aerial photographs of historical society trek sites. These have been transferred to historical photographs.
