Historical Note
The county superintendent of schools was an elected official who oversaw the school districts within the given county. This position is now defunct and each school district is overseen by a superintendent appointed by the school board.
Big Horn County was created from portions of Fremont, Johnson and Sheridan Counties in 1890 and organized in 1897. Basin is the county seat.
