The collection includes copies of the following: A chronology for Challenger Airlines from 1941 to 1950 (including an insert with a corporate chronology for Frontier Airlines)*, a 1947 prospectus, a 1947-1949 scrapbook of news clippings, a 1948 time table, a 1948 employees directory, a 1950 Denver Post article covering the merger which created Frontier Airlines, and a 1986 Denver Post article highlighting the history of Frontier Airlines

Biographical / Historical

Challenger Airlines' predecessor, Summit Airways Inc., was incorporated in Wyoming on December 31, 1941. It was based in Laramie where it trained pilots for the Army and Navy in cooperation with the University of Wyoming. The company later expanded to include mail and passenger transportation in the region. The company's name was changed in 1947 to Challenger Airlines Company and business operations were moved to Salt Lake City. In 1950 Challenger Airlines was included in a merger that created Frontier Airlines, which ceased operations in 1986
