1st Lt. Harold W. Drummond, Cmdr, US Army 304th MPEG, England, to Mrs. Wells, 1944, [ MPEG = Military Police Escort Guard Company], Re: loss of her son R. Homer Wells, Jr., Handwritten
Scope and Content
This collection consists mainly of military ephemera belonging to Ralph Wells, Sr. However, it also includes several letters addressed to Mrs. Wells from Staff Sergeant Glenn Milton, USA. These letters are of particular significance as they deal with events leading up to and including the time period when Mr. and Mrs. Wells’ son was reported missing in action on Corregidor. The letters appear to contain first-hand knowledge of war activities on Corregidor and Bataan in late December, 1941, including accounts of SSgt Milton’s experiences as a Japanese Prisoner of War.
In addition to military ephemera and correspondence about the war in the Pacific, the collection also includes World War Two news articles and family obituaries.
