Historical Note

Cheyenne Little Theatre has been a cultural institution in the city since 1930, producing famous literary and Broadway plays. Local and regional talent has been featured. In addition, for the enjoyment of residents and tourists, it has also sponsored a popular melodrama during Cheyenne Frontier Days.

Late in 1929, a motion was passed by the Cheyenne Woman’s Club to sponsor a Little Theatre organization. This developed through the efforts of Mrs. R. J. Hofmann, president of the Woman’s club that year, and her vice president Mrs. Joseph C. O’Mahoney. The Woman’s Club then proceeded by inviting the presidents of the twelve leading Cheyenne service clubs to send a representative to discuss organization plans. At this meeting held in the Woman’s Club Room at the Carnegie Library in January, 1930, the Cheyenne Little Theatre was organized. Mrs. O’Mahoney was elected president. Under the direction of successive boards, the Cheyenne Little Theatre Players remains financially independent and self-sufficient. It has provided cultural influence on the community and recreational opportunities for thousands of residents of Cheyenne and Warren Air Force Base.
