Biographical Note
Robert Vance Garrett was actively involved in aeronautics throughout most of his life. Born in Sheridan in 1903, he learned to fly in 1925 and entered the commercial airline field in 1926, flying in Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado, Montana and New Mexico. From 1930 to 1942, he was a pilot of Wyoming Air Service, which became Inland Air Lines and later Inland Division of Western Air Lines. During WWII, he served as a pilot instructor and rose to the position of Chief Flight Operations Division at the Pentagon. After the war he served on the Civil Aeronautics Board and helped direct the Berlin Airlift. He received awards and patents for his work in the aviation field. In 1955 he left aviation for other commercial endeavors.
