Biographical Note

Zenia Jean Emerson Grothe (1883-1976) was the wife of Wyoming Governor Frank C. Emerson (1882-1931) and served as Wyoming's first lady from 1927-1931. After Emerson's death in 1931 soon after the start of his second term, Jean moved to Laramie with their three sons. There she married Harry E. Grothe, owner of a local lumber company, in 1934. Harry passed away in 1944.
