Guide to the Lucy Ellen Whitehead Gannett collection

 Collection
Identifier: H69-19

Scope and Content

Booklet titled Lucy Ellen’s Girlhood Days by Lucy Ellen Whitehead Gannett. The booklet describes her trip west to Denver from Leavenworth City, Kansas in 1866. Her family later moved to Cheyenne as the town was being established. Includes information about social life in early Cheyenne, and about various individuals and events.

Some of the information may be somewhat slanted. For example, Ms. Gannett stated her father "helped to draft the Woman’s Suffrage Bill that was passed at that time." She doesn’t record that Mr. Whitehead, a member of Wyoming’s First Territorial Council, voted against the bill.
