Biographical Note

William Thomas Peryam was born in 1844 in England. On July 14, 1879, he arrived on the east bank of the Grand Encampment River in Carbon County, Wyoming, with his wife, Alice, and sons Creve (3 years old) and Ben (6 months old). He settled on 440 acres, paying $1.25 per acre to the US government. Peryam built and bridge across the Encampment River and charged teams $0.25 and riders $0.10 to cross. Following the gold and copper booms in the area in the late 1890s, the Peryams began operating a roadhouse out of their home and outbuildings. In 1900, the family built a new house, complete with 10 bedrooms, a dining room the length of the house, and a wide, covered porch. In addition to their ranching operations and roadhouse, Peryam purchased the Reich brother's dairy in 1912, served as Justice of the Peace for 10 years, and represented Carbon County in the State Legislature in 1905, 1907 and 1915.

W.T. and Alice added four children to their family in Wyoming: Joe, George, John and Dorothy. Alice passed away in 1937 and W.T. in 1944. Both are buried in Riverside, Wyoming.
