Scope and Content
Dockets, case files, monthly reports, indices correspondenc and case papers filed with the Fremont County Justice of the Peace and County Courts ranging from criminal, civil court, small claim records and family violence dockets . Cases heard by the Justice of the Peace Courts involved misdemeanor charges. Felony cases were either dismissed or bound over to the County District Court. Cases heard by the County Courts could involve either misdemeanor or low-level felony charges.

Fremont County Justice of the Peace/County Court records as maintained by the Wyoming State Archives consist of dockets, monthly reports,correspondence, indices, and files. They were originally filed with the Justice of the Peace or County Courts in Fremont County.
Arrangement of the Collection
The collection is divided into thirteen series including: Atlantic City, Circle, Cora, Dubois, Hudson, Jeffrey City, Lander, Riverton, Shoshoni, South Pass, Thermopolis, and Pilot Justices of the Peace; and Lander and Riverton County Court records
Acquisition Information
Records were transferred in multiple groups from 1973 through 1998
