Booklet: “Cheyenne, the Magic City: Photographs of Cheyenne" by C.D. Kirkland, 1890. Most of the pages are composites of Kirkland's work centering around a theme, like churches, City Park, residences, or railroad facilities. One page is devoted to a birds eye view sketch of town looking sounth from the UPRR depot, across the UPRR yards, to the South Side and Johnson School in the distance, though it is labeled "Normal College". The last page includes a number of small advertisements for local businesses.

Historical Note

Charles D. Kirkland was one of the premiere regional photographers in the 1870s-1890s, working out his studio in Cheyenne, he specialized in portraits and commercial buildings, but also captured the major events of the time, including the Capitol Building cornerstone celebration and women voting. This booklet promoted Cheyenne as a modern metropolis of substantial commercial and government buildings and gracious mansions.
