Scope and Content
Case files, dockets, and administrative records filed with the Carbon County Justice of the Peace and County Courts ranging from criminal, civil court records and combined civil and criminal court dockets . Cases heard by the Justice of the Peace Courts involved misdemeanor charges. Felony cases were either dismissed or bound over to the County District Court. Cases heard by the County Courts could involve either misdemeanor or low-level felony charges.

Carbon County Justice of the Peace/County Court records as maintained by the Wyoming State Archives consist of dockets, case files,and indices. They were originally filed with the Justice of the Peace/County Courts in Carbon County.
Arrangement of the Collection
The collection is divided into ten series including: Dixon Justice of the Peace records, Elk Mountain Justice of the Peace records, Encampment and Riverside Justice of the Peace records, Hanna Justice of the Peace records, Medicine Bow Justice of the Peace records, Rawlins Justice of the Peace records, Saratoga Justice of the Peace records, Shirley BasinJustice of the Peace records, Carbon County Court-Rawlins records, and Carbon County Court-Baggs, Hanna, Saratoga records.

Records were transferred in multiple groups beginning in 1986
