Scope and Content
Case files, dockets, and administrative records filed with the Big Horn County Justice of the Peace and County Courts ranging from criminal, civil court records to hunter and guide affidavits, coroners inquest, and election certificates. Cases heard by the Justice of the Peace Courts involved misdemeanor charges. Felony cases were either dismissed or bound over to the County District Court. Cases heard by the County Courts could involve either misdemeanor or low-level felony charges.

Big Horn County Justice of the Peace/County Court records as maintained by the Wyoming State Archives consist of dockets, case files, certificate of elections, hunters' and guides' affidavits, , and monthly reports. They were originally filed with the Justice of the Peace/County Courts in Big Horn County.
Arrangement of the Collection
The collection is divided into nine series including: Basin Justice of the Peace records, Cody Justice of the Peace records, Garland Justice of the Peace records, Greybull Justice of the Peace records, Hyattville Justice of the Peace records, Ishawooa Justice of the Peace records, Meeteetse Justice of the Peace records, Basin Circuit Court records, and Lovell Circuit Court records.
Acquisition Information
Records were transferred in multiple groups beginning in 1983.
