Historical Note
E. Richard Shipp was born on May 1, 1864, at Petersburg, Illinois. Shipp was a graduate of Georgetown Law School in 1895. He helped foundSigma Nu Phi, a legal fraternity, while an instuructor at the National Law School in Washington, D.C. Around 1905, he moved to Casper, Wyoming, where he served as a prosecutor. Prior to studying law, Shipp worked at several national newspapers as a printer and was a life long member of the International Typographical Union.
Shipp was a prolific writer, penning many poem as well as a number of law texts. During World War I, he was chairman of the Four Minute Men.
Shipp died in Casper in 1932.
