Biographical / Historical

Savino C. “Sam” Lopez (1898-1978) was a prominent businessman and activist in Cheyenne. As a young man, he farmed his own land, was a postmaster and justice of the peace in New Mexico, and worked for Great Western Sugar Company, United Air Lines, operated a billiards hall and café, and worked as janitor and sales representative. He ran unsuccessfully for the state house of representatives in 1954. Active in the Hispanic community, he was instrumental in the organization and direction of the Latin American Association, the Latin American Club, the Latin American Education Association, Wyoming Federation of Latin American Clubs and the National Latin American Federation
