Scope and Content

This collection contains various records reflecting the interests and activities of the family. Most are personal and scholastic records of Edward Durbin (1884-1935), a son who had a penchant for writing poetry. Portions of a scrapbook and several individual records document the work of the Methodist Church in Wyoming

Biographical / Historical

Thomas Durbin (1847-1936) was a prominent sheep and cattle rancher in Laramie County. From 1870 to 1890, he and a brother managed Durbin Land and Cattle Company. Thomas helped organize the Wyoming Stock Growers Association, served as bailiff of the State Supreme Court, and was active in the Methodist Church and several masonic lodges. In 1873, he married Harriet Johnson (1853-1940). They had four children, three of whom died in infancy
