Guide to the Robert Moeller Collection
Scope and Content
Personal and business records of Moeller family members. Some records deal with family members who lived in Maine, while others concern relatives who settled in territorial Wyoming, particularly John Chaplin. John Chaplin (1853-1919) was born in Cambuslang, Scotland on January 26, 1853 and came to the United States in 1854. He eventually moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he worked for Andrew Gilchrist (1842-1894), a prominent cattlemen. Later he partnered with Gilchrist in banking and ranching and was the executor of Gilchrist’s estate
The bulk of the collection consists of various financial records and correspondence about Gilchrist’s business dealing
