Scope and Content

Much of the collection consists of correspondence from Fred to Ina from 1917 to 1918 when he was on US Geological Survey crew in northern Wyoming. A few letters from 1918 are from Colorado Springs where he was sent for military training. In his letters, he occasionally wrote in German and shorthand. There are transcriptions of these letters.

Historical Note

Fred Harcleroad (1896-1945) was a resident of Cheyenne. He worked for Boeing Air Transport, the US Postal Service, the US Geological Survey, and United Airlines, was drafted in World War I and was a member of the Methodist Church. On February 12, 1918, he married Ina Livermore (1898-1974) of Basin, Wyoming, and they had four children. Fred died in 1945 in Cheyenne. After his death, Ina moved the family to California. Her youngest son, Ned, died in 1950 and was buried in Cheyenne. Ina worked as a stenographer for the City of La Mesa. She died in 1974 and was buried in Cheyenne.

The Stephen L. and Enid Stover papers, 1956–2013 are housed at the Kansas State University Archives. Enid was the daughter of Ina and Fred Harcleroad.
