Wyoming became the 44th state on July 10, 1890. A large celebration was held at the Capitol Building in Cheyenne. Festivites included speeches by Theresa Jenkins and Governor Francis E. Warren. Esther Morris presented the 44 star American flag, purchased through subscription by the women of Wyoming. Two companies of the Wyoming Girl Guard, a quasi-military group, also participated as honor guards for the flag and state car.
