Biographical / Historical

Felix Alston was born in Texas in 1869. Interest in the livestock industry brought him to Wyoming in 1892 and he settled on Shell Creek in Big Horn County. He would engage in a number of occupations during his residence in Wyoming, but is most noted for his work as Big Horn County Sheriff and as warden of the Wyoming State Penitentiary. Much of the collection relates to his duties in these positions. Alston was involved in the investigation of the Ten Sleep, or Spring Creek, Raid and his work was instrumental in the conviction of the guilty parties. He was appointed warden of the Penitentiary in 1911 and served in that capacity until 1919. Alston then left Wyoming for California and resided there until his death in 1956
