Biographical / Historical

Robert Earl Richardson was born on February 28, 1881, in Cambridge Iowa. His family moved to Nebraska and then to Windsor, Colorado. Richardson graduated from the Colorado Agricultural College (later Colorado State University) in Fort Collins in 1902. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, and in 1903 he began working for the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company in Colorado and New Mexico. In 1907, Richardson married Olive Clark. They lived in Longmont, Colorado for nine years where Richardson worked as the Longmont City Engineer. The Richardsons had four children – three daughters: Jeanette (Stewart), Roberta (Anderson), Eleanor (Denman), and one son: Robert Clark Richardson

In 1916 the family moved to Lovell, Wyoming, when Richardson accepted the position of manager of the Lovell Gas and Electric Company. Over the years Richardson became a prominent Lovell businessman. In 1929, Mr. and Mrs. Richardson, along with their business partner W. C. Hopkin, formed the Lovell Clay Products Company, with factories in Lovell and in Billings, Montana. Richardson was president of the company at the time of his death in 1952. A detailed obituary of Richardson from the Lovell Chronicle and a copy of his death certificate are included in the collection
