Biographical / Historical
Vera Hill Saban was born July 25, 1907 near Nelson, Nebraska. After graduating from high school in Nelson she moved with her family to Wyoming, settling on farm between Greybull and Basin. She earned a teaching certificate and began a teacher career at a school on Beaver Creek. After she married Clyde Saban in 1934, cooking and ranch life replaced the teaching career. The Sabans also lived in Worland and Basin. After her husband died in 1961, Vera lived in Montana for several years, first serving as a teacher near Big Sandy, then as a cook for a nearby ranch. She returned to the Basin area in 1967 to care for her mother. A writing career, consisting of almost 90 known published works of fiction and non-fiction, was launched the same year. She traveled extensively, but continued to reside in the area until her death, which occurred on March 21, 2005
