Biographical / Historical

The Wyoming Chapter of the Daughters of the American Colonists (D.A.C.) was organized in 1939, following the appointment of Elise T. Coble as the organizing regent by the National Society of the D.A.C. According to information in the collection, the primary purpose of the national organization was to “keep alive in the consciousness of the American people a knowledge and evaluation of” the accomplishments of the citizens of colonial America. Members were “lineal descendents of a man or woman who rendered civil or military service in any of the colonies prior to July 4th, 1776.”

Activities of the Wyoming chapter included presentations of information about members’ colonial ancestors, reviewing genealogical research sources and compiling information, providing awards to outstanding history students at Cheyenne and Laramie High Schools, and dedicatory tree planting
