Scope and Content

The collection consists primarily of samples of birthday cards (1949-1961), printed for Cahill, that he sent to friends and acquaintances. They include encouraging messages generally dealing with Cahill’s perspective on life. Also included is a 1928 letter of transmittal printed on letterhead for the “The Third Annual World Series Rodeo” at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Cahill is listed as the Director of Publicity

Biographical / Historical

T. Joe Cahill was an active and popular Cheyenne resident who was involved in many career pursuits. Cahill was born in 1877 at Camp Carlin, northwest of Cheyenne. He served Laramie County and Cheyenne as deputy sheriff, county clerk, fire chief, and police chief. He was known for his charitable work, especially with St. Joseph’s Orphanage in Torrington. Cahill was also a highly regarded promoter and manager of sports events. Called “Mr. Wyoming” and “the man who made a million friends,” Cahill had numerous friends and acquaintances across the country, including celebrities, sports stars, and politicians. He died in 1965 in Cheyenne, Wyoming
