Biographical / Historical
Rose Plachy Smith taught school in northeastern Wyoming during the late 1930s. Following marriage in 1940 she taught at the Lower Mill Creek School near Ethete. In 1942 the Smith’s moved to Cheyenne, where Ms. Smith worked at the Cheyenne Modification Center, helping prepare fighter planes for combat during World War II. She later worked at Warren Air Force Base
Following retirement, Ms. Smith became active in a number of organizations, including the Wyoming State Historical Society, American Association of Retired Persons, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She also became a tour guide for the Historic Governor’s Mansion
