Guide to the Gardner Family Collection
Scope and Content
Photocopies of various records pertaining to the history of the Gardner family of Utah and western Wyoming, particularly the Star Valley area. The records concern Archibald Gardner, who came to Star Valley in 1889, his family, and descendents
Most of the information is genealogical in nature, with lists of descendents, family trees, and family histories. Copies of many photographs are included. These primarily feature family members and locations of businesses, such as the mills run by family members. Much of the information has been copied from publications. A small amount of correspondence is included
Autobiographical pieces by Archibald Gardner and one of his sons, Clarence, are included, as is a lengthy biographical piece on Alice Burton Gardner, Clarence’s wife. Also of note is a transcription of a 1999 interview with Reed Gardner, Star Valley dairy farmer, and his wife, Virginia. The interview concerns family and farm life, land ownership, and land use
The latest items concern wrestler Rulon Gardner, son of Reed and Virginia, his Olympic gold medal, and snowmobile accident. The collection includes a “Got Milk” poster featuring Rulon
