Scope and Content

This collection consists of diaries, undated letters and a couple newspaper articles. Only a small portion of the diaries are in the traditional format. Most of the entries are undated, do not reflect the dates printed in the booklets and are random thoughts and short essays about personal events and feelings. He often re-used older diaries.

Historical Note

Francis E. Brammer was born on April 23, 1900 in Wadsworth, Nevada. At the age of 10, he and his mother moved to Cheyenne. He graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1919 and attended photography school in Chicago. While en route to California in 1926, he stopped in Cheyenne but ended up staying. In 1932 he was hired as a photographer for the Wyoming State Tribune and remained with the paper for the next 50 years. He is best remembered for photographing every facet of Cheyenne society. His photographic collection was donated to the State of Wyoming. Brammer died in April 1986.
