Historical Note
Verna Keyes was born in Buffalo, Wyoming in 1893 and attended elementary school in Buffalo. An artist, she enrolled at the Art Institute of Chicago and graduated with honors. She married Arthur Charles Keyes in 1920 in Buffalo. After living in Buffalo and Bozeman, they settled in Casper, where Arthur operated the Keyes Tank Company. Verna was active in the Girl Scouts, PEO Sisterhood, and Christian Science Church. She is best known for designing the Wyoming State Flag in 1917. Verna died in Casper in 1982.
