Guide to the Country School Legacy Project Collection
Scope and Content
Records of the Country School Legacy Project in Wyoming. The project was funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and sponsored by the Mountain Plains Library Association. The project examined the role of country schools in shaping life and culture in the participating states. Robert Barthell, English Instructor at Northwest Community College in Powell, was the Wyoming state director.
Records include information on various schools, with historical background; project reports; manuscripts and reports about schools; related newspaper articles; artwork and written views of students about their schools; photocopies of early school records; project information and guidelines; historic site forms; research notes; project related correspondence; photographs of students, teachers, and schoolhouses; and final reports by project administrators.
Records were apparently added to the collection as they came in, and there is no apparent arrangement system. However, the collection includes a fairly complete inventory of the folders, which is in the first box. Photographs have been moved to the Historical Photograph Collection.
