Historical Note
Willard Ernest Eder (1916-2009) was born and raised near Buffalo, Wyoming. After graduating from the University of Wyoming in 1938, Eder had a commission in the US Army but traded if entry into the Navy aviation program. During World War II, he served briefly off the coast of Morocco, but distinguished himself in the Pacific Theater, including the Battle of the Coral Sea, Battle of Leyte Gulf and Okinawa, and attained status as an ace. After the war, he remained in the US Navy until his retirement in 1965. He died in San Diego, California.
