Scope and Content

Letter and postcard addressed to the postmaster at Egbert, Wyoming from Dan W. Egbert of Batavia, Illinois. The 1921 letter briefly describes a confrontation with Indians near Hillsdale in 1868, and adds some brief observations about the area at that time. Dan and his brother Augustus were railroad workers looking for a suitable site for a station when they met the Indians. The site became a town bearing their name. The undated card advises the residents of Egbert to grow sugar beets
