Scope and Content

Alice Richards McCreery was the daughter of Governor William A. Richards. She was born in Oakland, California, and raised in Oakland, Colorado Springs, the Big Horn Basin and Cheyenne. From 1895 to 1899, she served as Governor Richard's personal secretary. On several occasions when she managed the office in the governor's absence, she earned the title of "Girl Governor."

This collection consists of newspaper articles, reminiscences and correspondence about her social circles, Wyoming incidents, and the Big Horn Basin.

Biographical Note

Eleanor Alice Richards McCreery (December 2, 1876 - October 2, 1967) was the daughter of Governor William A. Richards and Harriett Alice Hunt Richards. She was born in Oakland, California, and raised in Oakland, Colorado Springs, the Big Horn Basin and Cheyenne. From 1895 to 1899, she served as Governor Richard's personal secretary. On several occasions when she managed the office in the governor's absence, she earned the title of "Girl Governor." In 1902, Richards married Guy W. McCreery in Washington, D.C. McCreery was a Spanish American War veteran and an ordained Methodist minister.
