Biographical Note

Daze Bristol was a Cheyenne socialite and a newspaper reporter. Born Daze Mae McCabe in Missouri around 1878, she moved to Cheyenne with her parents in 1892. She had been trained in music and dramatic arts and performed with many traveling theatrical companies that came to Cheyenne. In 1900, she married Charles A. Bristol, a Spanish-American war veteran and son of Cheyenne publisher Samuel A. and Ellen M. (Lee) Bristol. Daze won a beauty award at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair and appeared on the cover of Redbook Magazine in 1910.

Following Charlie's death in 1927, Daze began to write for the local paper to support herself. She won several awards as the women's editor for the Cheyenne newspaper and the Wyoming Stockman Farmer and did not retire completely from this work until her 100th birthday.

Daze is also remembered for her efforts to promote the Cheyenne Frontier Days parade, creating several of the parade floats still in use today, including "Daze's Dancers," "Hell's Half Acre," "Silver Crown Mining," "Placer Mining," "Harry P. Hynds Blacksmith," and "The Vigilantes." For many years, she would play the organ to accompany the square dancers on the "Daze's Dancers" float.

Daze died in 1983 at the age of 105 and is buried beside her husband in Cheyenne's Lakeview cemetery.
