Historical Note
Thomas Horn, Jr. was born November 21, 1861 in rural Scotland County, Missouri. After enduring a difficult childhood, Horn left the family farm and went west, where he worked as a US Army scout, lawman, cowboy, detective, and hired gunman. He is most remembered for killing Willie Nickell near Iron Mountain, Wyoming in 1902. After a long, sensational trial, Horn was found guilty and was hung on November 20, 1903. He is buried in Boulder, Colorado.
