Historical Note
The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a federal public work relief program to employ primarily young, unmarried men and teach them marketable skills during the Great Depression. Active between 1933 and 1942, CCC camps employed nearly 3 million men. In Wyoming, camp work included planting trees, building trails, fighting fires, and construction of picnic shelters, signs, and the museum at Guernsey State Park.
Dalpha R. Lavallee was born in New Bedford, Massachusettes on July 30, 1914. During the 1930's, he had served in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Split Rock Camp in central Wyoming. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and later in the Army Reserves before retiring at the rank of Captain in 1974.
