Historical Note
The Wyoming State Board of Land Commissioners was constitutionally created in 1890. Upon statehood, the federal government granted approximately 4.2 million acres of land to the State of Wyoming. The land was to be held in trust to produce income, to support public schools, and other state institutions named in the original grants. The Farm Loan Act became effective in 1921, to encourage farming and ranching in Wyoming. The two boards were incorporated into the Wyoming State Lands and Investments Department in the 1990s.
