The George Haywood Collection consists mainly of correspondence files. Topics include mining in Wyoming and the Mountain West, evaluations of property and metals, personal investments, promotional work, and social correspondence with family, friends, and former managers and employees. Others records relate to mining work, social activities and organizations, and personal finances.

Biographical Note
George Haywood (1854-1937) was an English mining engineer. In 1883 he came to Rock Springs, Wyoming, where he was employed in a management position. He sought an appointment as territorial inspector of mines but was turned down. In 1887, the company transferred him to Carbon. In 1890 he moved to Cambria where he was superintendent of the Cambria Mining Company. In 1904 he moved to Sheridan, where he worked as a mining consultant, examining mining ventures and enterprises and promoting mineral development in northern Wyoming. He died in Sheridan, Wyoming on January 25, 1937.
