Historical Note
The Historial Landmarks Commission of Wyoming was created by the Wyoming Legislature in 1927 and consisted of three members appointed by the Governor. By statute, it was given the power to acquire, preserve, restore and care for sites of historical interest and historical landmarks with the State of Wyoming.
In 1965, it was transferred to the Land and Water Conservation Commission and in 1969 this commission and the Parks Commission were combined to form the Recreation Commission. During the 1990 reorganization, the Recreation Commission became part of the Department of Commerce. In 1999, the department was reorganized into the Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources.
