Scope and Content
This collection is comprised of personal and business records, many of which were acquired or collected by him. Topics include his "In Old Wyoming" column, promotional brochures, manuscripts for newspaper publication, historical reminiscences, sampling of reading material, Idaho politics and promotion, and Wyoming business and organization records.

Biographical Note
John Charles Thompson (1879-1952) was a well-known Cheyenne newspaper editor. During his life worked briefly as a miner (1898), secretary to the governor (1917-1918), and assessor of Laramie County (1919-1920). His true calling was in journalism. From 1900 to 1924 he was a reporter for Wyoming Tribune, Cheyenne Leader and Wyoming State Tribune, and from 1924 until his retirement he was editor of the Wyoming State Tribune and Wyoming Stockman Farmer. He had an avid interest in Wyoming and western history and became well known across the state for his column "In Old Wyoming" which focused on Wyoming's history. In addition to journalism, he was a member of the Wyoming Historical Landmarks Commission (1939-1942) and was active in republican politics.
