Scope and Content
The Dr. George P. Johnston Collection provides much information about his medical education, civic endeavors (including speeches) and health care in Cheyenne during the 1920s and 1930s. Among the records are his appointment records (patients seen; no diagnosis), logs about sick and injured Union Pacific Railroad employees, and health programs for employees of the Warren Live Stock Company and the Colorado and Southern Railroad.

Biographical Note
Dr. George Palmer Johnston (1863-1956) was a long-time Cheyenne physician. He attended Antioch College and the Medical College of Ohio, graduated from the latter in 1891 and was licensed to practice medicine in Wyoming in 1899. He became a board member of the state board of medical examiners in 1901, served as a medical advisor during World War I, and provided contract medical care for the Union Pacific Railroad and the Colorado and Southern Railroad during the 1920s and 1930s. During his 50 plus years of residence in Cheyenne, Dr. Johnston was active in the Elks, Masons, Rotary, Laramie County school board, and the Wyoming State Medical Society.
