Guide to the American War Mothers Collection
Scope and Content
Records in this collection reflect patriotic and social activities of members in several communities but mainly Cheyenne. They provide some insight into the activities of the national organization and the companion group, the Women’s Relief Corps. There are nine subgroups: General Records, American War Mothers (national organization), Cheyenne Chapter No.4, Cowley Chapter No. 5, Hot Springs Chapter No. 13, Victor Fuller Chapter of Mountainview, Washakie Chapter, Women’s Relief Corps - Department of Colorado and Wyoming, and Wyoming State Chapter.

Historical Note
Organized in 1917, the American War Mothers was an organization comprised of women whose sons and daughters served in foreign wars. It promoted fellowship and patriotism among its members and provided assistance to veterans and veterans’ organizations. The Wyoming chapter was organized in 1928.
