Scope and Content

Carter County records as maintained by the Wyoming State Archives consist of original volumes and microfilm, including County Clerk commissioners minutes, commissions, brands, agreements, bonds and contracts, bills of sale, liens, powers of attorneys, mining records, deeds, mortgages, and liens. District Court probate docket and estate record volumes are also included. They were filed for record at the County Offices in South Pass City, Wyoming.

Historical Note

Carter County, Wyoming, was created December 27, 1867. The county seat was located at South Pass City. On December 13, 1869, the county was renamed Sweetwater County and the county seat moved to Green River. The Carter County area is now part of Fremont County, Wyoming.
