00.01 Correspondence, April 1898 - December 1898, January 1903 - August 1905 (letterpress); 1898, January 1903 December 1924 (loose correspondence)

 File — Box: 1

Scope and Contents

Mainly outgoing correspondence. This series reflects two different activities. Some of the letters relate to court actions, such as receiving, filing or mailing of case papers, and in the first couple of entries in the letter¬press, efforts to secure widow's pensions for the appli¬cants. How-ever, most of the correspondence pertains to the recording of various federal land patents, applications, affidavits, and proofs with the U. S. Land Office in Buffalo. From letterheads and registers of county officers, it seems that at various times the Clerk or the Clerk of Court was an ex officio officer of the other. Among the routine letters of transmittal, listing name of applicant, instrument filed, and recording fee, there are occasional statements detailing procedures for filing federal patents. See also U. S. Bureau of Land Management, Buffalo Office, unpatented land claims
