Letterpress, 1883 1892

 File — Box: 5

Scope and Contents

From the File:

Incoming and outgoing correspondence. This series deals mainly with routine administrative matters, such as letters of transmittal, statements on assessments and taxes, receipts, bonds, and general financial condition of the county. Filed among these, though, are more informative letters county attorney opinions, explanations on the nature and office of the County Treasurer, personal discussions on taxes, early correspondence with the State Treasurer on the county tax structure, correspondence with individuals on past tax titles and lease agreements as these relate to individual taxes, and in the 1930s, problems surrounding automobile taxes. Many letterheads are, if nothing else, interesting by themselves, particularly of early ranches and businesses.

Box 5 contains three letterpress volumes; Volume 1, 1883 1892; Volume 2, 1896 1898 (indexed); and Volume 3, 1908 1911. Many faded pages in Volume 1 are unreadable.
