Diaries
Scope and Content
This collection consists of personal correspondence between Alice Richards and her fiancé Guy McCreery from May 1901 to March 1902, when they were married. Mr. McCreery was a Methodist Minister, and much of his correspondence was written from Boston University, School of Theology.
The collection also includes Ms. Richards’ diaries, dating from 1896 to 1902, when the Richards family resided in Cheyenne and Washington D.C. Alice Richards father, William A. Richards, was Governor of Wyoming from 1895 to 1899 and the earlier diary references her work as her father’s secretary. A small scrapbook contains clippings dating roughly from 1880 to 1907 highlighting events either involving the Richards family or of interest to them. Another scrapbook covering the years 1897 to 1898 highlights Miss Richards’ social activities and acquaintances.
Also included is a folder of correspondence and clippings concerning the deaths of Thomas and Edna Jenkins in 1911. Mrs. Jenkins was Ms. McCreery’s sister. In later years Ms. McCreery added notes outlining her views on the circumstances of the deaths.
