08.03 Naturalization Records, 1890-1904, 1914-1924
Scope and Contents
Arrangement: Petitions, oaths and declarations are arranged alphabetically by surname of petitioner. Depositions are arranged numerically by petition for naturalization number.
Original naturalization records (circa 1890-1904) presented by or in behalf of aliens seeking citizenship. Included are declarations of citizenship, declarations of intention, petition and oath of witnesses and affidavits of good character. Forms note name of applicant, date, nationality and sometimes age (for minors) and port of arrival. Some documents come from states other than Wyoming, showing the diverse geographical backgrounds of Sweetwater County's foreign born residents. See also Petitions Facts for Petition of Naturalization and Notice of Application for Admission to Citizenship.
Depositions (1914-1914) are examinations of witnesses about a petitioner's prior residency before moving to Sweetwater County, work experience, and citizenship qualities. These statements, in turn, reveal information about the witnesses themselves. Depositions are only for petitions of naturalization #150-932, not inclusive.
