02.00 Mineral Division Correspondence, 1992-1993

 File — Box: 1

Scope and Contents

With the authority of the Secretary of the Interior, pursuant to Section 205 of the Federal Oil and Gas Royalty Management Act of 1982, the Wyoming Department of Audit performed audits and related investigations of federal oil and gas leases located in Wyoming. The correspondence, kept by Audit Supervisor Arthur Burgess, primarily related the findings by the Audit Department of various companies’ underpayment of royalties to the government. Additionally, the correspondence provided information on appeals of Audit findings to the Mineral Management Service, a part of the Department of the Interior. Some audit cases involved the Wyoming State Land and Farm Loan Office, the Bureau of Land Management, and the State Attorney General.

A few pieces of correspondence concerned internal workings of the department, namely personnel issues.
