 File — Box: 5

Scope and Contents

From the File:

Arrangement: Alphabetical; chronological thereunder.

Fire investigation case files where fires resulted in damage to government buildings, and/or buildings with historic significance; and fires where fatalities occurred.

Several files include multiple file folders of investigative records, but there are four cubic feet of fire records for the Red Garter Saloon fire that broke out in downtown Lander, Wyoming, in the early morning hours of January 2, 1983. Cause of the fire, which injured at least one firefighter, is listed as “incendiary,” or of a “suspicious nature.” The landmark structure was built at the turn of the century with bricks made in the city of Lander. The site was used as a garage and radiator shop before it became a bar. Firefighters fought the blaze in temperatures ranging from six to eleven degrees below zero.
